Welcome!

Hi!  I'm Maureen - I'm a licensed, certified reading specialist with nearly two decades of experience working with children ages 6-18 with neurodiverse learning profiles.  These learning profiles have consisted of dyslexia, dysgraphia, hyperlexia, and executive functioning challenges.  My current and past teaching experiences have been in public, private, and non-profit educational settings.    I am a proud former educator of Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, CT where I was expertly trained in multi-sensory techniques as they related to my students with language-based learning differences.  I also spent one year as a Reading Interventionist for Morgan County Public Schools in Berkeley Springs, WV.   Currently, I split my time between instructing students at Wind Dance Farm in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, being a clinical supervisor for student teachers at Western Governors University, and offering online tutoring and consulting services on Outschool and Amplify Tutoring.

The Learningstead is where I share my passion for learning, literacy, and self-development.    This platform is intended to help families and educators discover a community, attend classes, and gather teaching ideas and materials.    I offer virtual and flex classes on Outschool, curriculum materials, and weekly teaching advice on Instagram.     Check out all the platforms below to learn more.

Formal Education / Certifications

With a BS in English Education, I was inspired to continue higher education to expand my knowledge base in language development and literacy.  I was awarded two master's degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University in the Teaching of English and the Reading Specialist Program in Applied Educational Psychology.

I have dual teaching licenses in Connecticut and West Virginia with professional certificates in both English and Remedial Reading (Grades 5-Adult).   In addition, I am an Orton-Gillingham trained educator with the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and have had Level I, Educational Therapist training with the National Institute of Learning Development.

The National Institute of Learning Development is the only Educational Therapy training that is accredited by the International Dyslexia Association.
